Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 1, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Al-Masjidh (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Al Muslim mobile app, the Al-Masjidh website (including mosque portals), and related services (together, the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

Al-Masjidh provides Islamic lifestyle tools for communities in Sri Lanka and beyond — including prayer times, Qibla, mosque finder, Quran and duas, reminders, and mosque management features. For privacy questions, contact support@minarath.lk.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect the following:

2.1 Account and profile information

If you create or link an account in the Al Muslim app, we may collect your phone number (for mobile login / OTP verification), display name, profile photo, language preference, and related profile settings. You may also continue as a guest; guest usage still creates a local session so features like prayer tracking can work. For mosque administrators using the website, we may collect login credentials, contact details, and mosque registration information you submit.

2.2 Location information

With your permission, the app uses your device location to provide accurate prayer times for your area, Qibla direction, nearby mosques on the map, and related features. Location used for prayer-zone detection is primarily processed on your device and is not continuously tracked for advertising. If you grant background location access, the app may use it to detect when you are at a mosque during prayer times so Jama'ah / prayer streak features can work when the app is closed. You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings; if location is unavailable, the app falls back to a default zone (e.g. Colombo) or a zone you select manually.

2.3 Device, usage, and notification data

We may collect device type, operating system, app version, general usage events, and push notification tokens (for example via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can deliver prayer reminders, Jumu'ah reminders, and other notifications you enable. Local notification preferences and many app settings are stored on your device.

2.4 Content and activity you create

This may include saved mosques, prayer goals and tracking sync, notification settings, Quran reading progress, and similar in-app activity. If you save a prayer streak image, the app may request photo library access only to save that image on your device.

2.5 Motion / compass sensors

The Qibla feature uses your device compass / motion sensors to show the direction to the Kaaba. This sensor data is processed on your device for that feature.

2.6 Mosque and website data

When mosques use Al-Masjidh’s web dashboard, we process the operational data they enter or manage (for example jamaat records, announcements, facilities, financial ledgers such as zakat / sadaqah / sanda, janaza information, trustee board details, and team accounts). That data is provided by the mosque and used to operate their Al-Masjidh workspace.

2.7 Cookies and similar technologies

Our website may use cookies or similar technologies to remember preferences, keep you signed in to mosque portals, analyse usage, and improve the experience. You can adjust browser settings to limit cookies; some features may work less well if you do.

3. How we use your information

We use the information to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Al Muslim app and Al-Masjidh website
  • Provide prayer times, Qibla, mosque finder, reminders, and related features
  • Authenticate users (including OTP / phone login) and manage accounts
  • Sync profile, goals, and prayer-related preferences when you are signed in
  • Send notifications you have enabled
  • Support mosque registration, dashboards, and community tools
  • Respond to support requests and protect the security of the Services
  • Comply with applicable law

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. How we share information

We may share information with service providers who help us run the Services — for example hosting, databases, maps (such as Google Maps for mosque locations), and push notification infrastructure (such as Firebase). These providers process data under agreements meant to protect it. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or in connection with a reorganisation of our operations. Mosque administrators control much of the data in their own workspace; we do not sell that operational data.

5. On-device processing and local storage

Many preferences and some location-related values are stored locally on your phone (for example via on-device storage) so the app works quickly offline. Prayer-zone detection from GPS is designed so your precise location stays on your device for that purpose. Clearing app data or uninstalling the app removes local storage on that device.

6. Data retention and security

We retain personal information only as long as needed to provide the Services, to support mosque operations you are part of, and as required by law. We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; please use a strong device passcode and keep your account credentials confidential.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Location: turn off or limit location access (including background location) in your device settings
  • Notifications: disable prayer and other reminders in the app or system settings
  • Account: update profile details in the app; you may delete your account from profile settings (guest or registered). Deletion permanently removes account-tied profile, prayer tracking sync, goals, and related settings where supported
  • Access / correction: request access to or correction of personal data by contacting us

To exercise these rights, email support@minarath.lk.

8. Children

The Services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. International processing

We primarily serve users in Sri Lanka. Your information may be processed on servers or by providers located in other countries. Where we do so, we take steps appropriate to the nature of the data and applicable requirements.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Material changes may also be highlighted in the app or on the website when appropriate.

11. Contact
